What is the difference between assisted living and a nursing home?
Assisted living facilities are residential care settings that combine housing, meals, and supportive and health care services. Assisted living provides more services than independent living, but less than a skilled nursing facility.
Skilled nursing homes provide long term care to individuals who require ongoing nursing care and supervision.
What happens if my loved-one requires more care than when he/she was moved in?
At Whispering Knoll Assisted Living, our goal is to have all of our residents age in place. If your loved one’s daily needs can no longer be safely met in an assisted living environment, he/she may be able to transfer to one of our sister facilities – JFK Hartwyck Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers, which provide a higher level of care. If your loved one requires immediate medical needs, you can take comfort in knowing JFK Medical Center is across the street.
Will Medicare cover assisted living?
No, Medicare does not cover the cost of assisted living. Medicare will continue to cover many of the community based services utilized prior to move-in. Please see the Director of Community Relations for more information.
Does Whispering Knoll Assisted Living accept Medicaid?

Does Whispering Knoll Assisted Living have a house physician?
Most of our residents continue to see their own physicians, just as they did before moving in. If you need to select a new physician, please see the Director of Community Relations for a list of current physicians, all of which are attending physicians at JFK Medical Center.
Are there any benefits for Veterans?
Yes, there is a benefit called the Aid and Attendance Pension. Basic information and forms are available at www.va.gov.
Will long term care insurance pay for assisted living?
Since every policy is different, it is best to contact the Long Term Care insurance provider directly for policy details.
Can residents bring their own furniture?
The transition from home to assisted living occurs most smoothly when residents bring their own furniture. Being able to sleep in your own bed, use your own dresser and watch TV in your favorite recliner makes new surroundings feel more familiar and comfortable. We also encourage residents to hang their own photographs and artwork on the wall, creating a home-like environment.
How do residents receive mail?
Staying in touch with friends and family is very important to our assisted living residents. Upon move-in, the resident will receive keys to a personal mailbox. Stamps are also available for purchase.
What are the visiting hours?
At Whispering Knoll, we understand the importance of maintaining ties to family and friends. Visitors are welcome anytime. Guests are also able to join their friend or loved on in our dining room for a nominal fee.
